Davis signs new tax program into existence
Governor Gray Davis signed a law mandating paid time off for family reasons, making California the lone state with such a requirement. The bill, effective July 1, does not tax employers, but is projected to require about 1 billion dollars in new worker contributions. The California Chamber of Commerce opposes the measure, citing risks to small businesses and employment.
