The AAFV invites domestic violence victims to its Awareness Group meeting Thursdays at 1 PM in the Probation Department Shafter. It runs a sixteen week, ninety minute session program guiding women to reclaim their lives. Sequoia Elementary hosts its second annual Teacher Night at Generals Headquarters on Oct 27 from 4 to 8 PM with Sequoia teachers serving food and drinks and the Richland Band performing to raise funds for academic awards and field trips. The Shafter Historical Society holds its Annual Meeting Oct 20 at 7 PM at the Harlin P Wilson Agricultural Museum Big Red Barn 200 Central Valley Highway with Steve Rodriguez discussing La Colonia history and the Rodriguez family. The committee visited the Police Department and Animal Control facility, praising the 15800 square foot building completed in 2008, generator backup, security locks, and recording devices. They highlighted six holding cells, 24 hour operations, and services like Chaplain Program and Domestic Abuse Response Team. Wasco men arrested in almond theft case
Kern County deputies from Rural Crime Unit arrested Manuel Perez Gutierrez and Abran Deladillo Robles, both Wasco residents, for grand theft and conspiracy in the theft of at least twelve almond bins from Shafter Wasco Gun. Investigation began last September after an officer saw almonds moved into bags. The suspects were located at 1809 Gaston Street Wasco.

Rotary honor and assist teachers
