Kern county plans to produce 550 to 5700 carloads of potatoes in 1936 unless a verbal promise to Eugene Mettler is broken. Mettler spoke to Shafter growers at Richland auditorium about the Warren bill and proposed changes. He noted home rule enforcement by a Kern county growers committee and that Shafter potatoes command a premium in eastern markets. North Shafter Man Hurt In Car Crash
A collision in North Shafter on Monday left J. F. Lautsch injured and transported to Shafter for medical care where Dr. A. W. Gaede diagnosed shock and a shoulder wound. Prizes total 283 with entries required to show 600 pounds picked in a day and 9 hour limit with rules on weighing and sacks. Shafter Driver Cleared in Fruitvale School Bus Incident
Two Fruitvale children, Riley Huckaby nine and Lucille Huckaby eleven, ran from behind a school bus into A Neuman’s Shafter car. Highway patrol concluded Neuman was not at fault as the children stepped into the path before the driver could stop. Both youngsters were taken to Kern General Hospital with cuts and bruises but expected to recover.
