William Paynter of Bakersfield was elected president at the ninth annual Kern County Safety Council meeting held Wednesday night. Homer T. McInerney became vice president with Richard Leask as treasurer and Ray Sirman as secretary, all from Bakersfield. The group elected 23 directors for 1965-66, including Paynter, Leask, McInerney, Sirman, and Gay, who retires as president. Gay credited 59 completed safety projects and urged continued year round safety education and strong public promotion of programs.

SAN DIEGO CALIF Sept 29 Marine Private Thomas E Jordan son of Mrs Ruth Jordan of 885 Central Valley Highway Shafter Calif was graduated Sept 15 from Marine recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego During eight weeks of intensified training he learned small arms marksmanship bayonet fighting self protection drill history and traditions of the Marine Corps The program condensed 12 weeks of work into eight and aims to expand Marine strength He is assigned to Camp Pendleton Calif for at least four weeks of advanced infantry combat training before moving to a school or Marine unit.
