National Cotton Board to Visit Shafter Station

Fifteen members of the National Cotton and Cotton Seed Advisory committee will visit the Shafter Cotton Experiment Station on Tuesday. The trip, led by Ezra Taft Benson's appointees, aims to survey station work and includes a Kern county guns tour and a banquet at the Hacienda Motel. The three day inspection ends Wednesday in Bakersfield with hosts Russell Kennedy and Harry Baker. John H. Turner Jr., director of the Shafter station, says the visit honors the station and its staff.

Bank of America promotes Joseph M Sales to assistant manager

Joseph M Sales, the former relief manager and lending officer at Bank of America's Shafter branch, has been promoted to assistant manager. He arrived in Shafter last August from the Chico district operation office and has a long banking and agriculture background including prior assistant manager at an Idaho bank and service as an agricultural statistician for the U S Department of Agriculture.

A/2C James V. Wilson, son of Shafter High student mathematics instructor James Wilson and Shafter High School graduate, has been chosen Airman of the Month for September by leaders at Nellis Air Force Base. He was assigned to tower control duty in 1956 and has advanced to tower self control leader. He will compete for wingman of the month with a $25 prize plus a steak dinner, a voting seat on next month’s board, and a commendation letter added to his service record.

Parents To Relive School Night On October Fifteenth

Marlys Annehet, English instructor and chair of the faculty planning committee, announces a school night October fifteenth. A shortened class period of twelve minutes allows each parent to meet teachers and learn course aims. Dinner in the cafeteria runs 6 30 to 7 30 p m, lunch menu served, price sixty cents. If parents cannot attend the dinner, they are urged to participate in the evening program.
