Six advance committeemen have contacted local businesses and individuals to raise funds for Kern County Council Scouting. The drive aims to enroll more than 10,000 boys as Cub Scouts Boy Scouts and Explorers annually with a goal of 90 000 dollars to support a full program and cultivate future citizens.

The reception organized by Mrs Ike J Peters and assisted by the Peters family featured dancing with water on heads and hands and floor rolls as part of intricate routines.

Kern County Council, Boy Scouts of America, to launch a membership recruitment campaign area wide called the A OK Roundup. Tom Petrie named co chair for the Northern District as the program ties into the astronaut team and officials at the Houston Manned Spacecraft Center.
Richland PTA hosts an annual carnival and barbecue on the school grounds starting at 5 p.m. with pit beef dinner at $1.50 for adults and 50 cents for children. Activities include Hat Booth, Dart Throw, Ring Toss, Nail Drive, and Make-Up Booth among others supporting PTA efforts.
Maple School plans its annual PTA Carnival with Mrs. Ernest Siemens chairing the executive board. Supper from 5 30 to 7 30 features meat loaf mashed potatoes green beans cole slaw hot rolls and coffee at 125 for adults 75 cents for children dessert pie 25 cents. Activities include baseball throws candle squirt and the packet lady among others.
The Shafter area begins a month long Take Pride in Your City campaign led by H. W. Pat Kelly with Chamber of Commerce backing. Local business volunteers and schools including Shafter High School Art Club and Richland School share posters and community outreach to urge citizen participation and home communication. Shafter Rotary Club members and wives will attend the sixth annual Rotary District 524 conference in Bakersfield November 9 10 at the Hacienda Motel and civic auditorium. District Governor William M Lyles Avenal presides Wallace Myers Rotary International Representative will participate. The Governor's Ball is a highlight on November 9. Dr John Furbay gives the keynote address November 9 with a barbecue on November 10 followed by a junior college football game at Memorial Stadium to close the informal event.
Richard Miller 13 underwent surgery for multiple leg fractures after a bicycle car collision on Walker Street. Police witness Miller and Gaylord Foreman rode without stopping for a sign, crossing paths with Arleigh Johnson driving to a station. Foreman treated at Mercy Hospital for facial lacerations and released.
