Friends of Gene Butch Tillman raised 23000 to cover medical bills for aplastic anemia. Tillman, a Shafter area harvester, has been hospitalized for weeks. A Sept 23 barbecue at Shafter Minter Field drew about 800 attendees with raffles and a goat auction raising 3500. Noel Wilson led donations from merchants and individuals. committee included Jim Ryan and others. Blood type O positive and monetary gifts welcomed at Shafter City Hall.
