The California Farm Bureau Federation will be represented at a three day public hearing in Las Vegas on proposed nationwide marketing orders for turkeys and turkey hatching eggs. President L A Rozzoni notes the need for fair impartial hearings and warns the orders could set a precedent for broader agricultural regulation. The hearing runs November 29 December 1 as the third of five across the United States.
State Treasurer Bert A. Betts announced that 1961 bond requirements were met and no further general obligation bond sales would occur for the year. He credited competitive bidding and an orderly sale program with saving taxpayers millions in interest, citing Veterans Farm and Home Loan, State School Building Aid, and State Construction Program bonds totaling $ -- million in calendar 1961.

Thompson son of Mr and Mrs William L Thompson of Shafter California recently participated in Exercise Brandywine a field training drill in Germany with about 26000 troops The exercise tested small unit leadership and combat readiness Thompson unit faced an Aggressor force supported by atomic capable and conventional artillery and other combat and logistics elements of VII Corps He entered the Army in November 1958 completed basic training at Fort Lewis Washington and arrived overseas in December 1959 The 22 year old is a 1956 graduate of Shafter High School
Congressman Harlan Hagen announced nationwide competitive exams for entry to the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London Connecticut on February 19 and 20. Applicants must mail by January 10 1962 and be 17 to 22 years old with high school graduation or senior status by June 30 next year. Admissions are competitive with no direct congressional appointments.
