Golden Oak Elementary held its first Oral Language Festival on Tuesday with categories in Serious Interpretation Solo Humorous Interpretation Solo Verse Chief and Duo. Winners in each category advance to the District Competition in December at the Activity Center.
Sequoia Elementary students held Running for Ronald to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House. Ronald himself attended to cheer and high five runners as pledges poured in. Last year the event raised over 3500 dollars with many laps to go.
The Shafter Ministerial Association and Valley Bible Church organized a community dinner at the Shafter Veterans Hall on Thanksgiving Day. Visitors were served turkey, potatoes, salad, rolls, and pie with help from Teen Challenge, high school Key Club members, and Shafter Police and Explorers. Pastor Mike Polley credited the entire community for making the event possible and noted enough food to serve about 400 people.
CSO asks Kern County residents to donate non perishable food and gently used clothing for Bakersfield Homeless Shelter at its Wasco center on 1401 Poso Avenue. First Presbyterian Church hosts organ recitals at 1705 17th Street Bakersfield with free admission from 12:00 to 12:30 PM on November 28 December 5 December 12 December 19 featuring Jim Page Liz Cervantes Marcia Krause Meg Wise and Joseph Simms. City brush and limb collection offered at no cost on remaining schedule.
