Plans for Christmas decorations along Central Avenue in Shafter proceed this week with colored lights strung above the street and a decorated tree at Central and James. Bill Brown handles lights, Frank Shaw the tree and strings, the Shafter 20-3 club provides the tree, and the Shafter Business Men's Association with city funds support the effort. Ernest Panero, manager of the Shafter theater, organizes a children's party with gifts and shows during Christmas week, assisted by association members. Merchants decorate store windows and Christmas displays appear citywide as 24 shopping days remain before Christmas.
