The Shafter Generals defeated Wasco 48 26 extending a growing edge in the two city rivalry. Records show Shafter leads 23 21 with several ties as the teams renew the annual big game anticipation.
Superior Court Judge John M. Nairn ruled in favor of the City of Shafter in the matter against developer Marvin Roe. The decision, filed at 4:42 p.m. Thursday, found the city acted within its discretion in refusing to file the proposed tentative subdivision map citing environmental impact and planning commission issues.
FBI data show cities under 10 000 years report 22.2 percent crime rise in 1974. Shafter records 75.6 percent more offenses than 1973 with 3 719 total. arrests up 2.6 percent. Police Chief Nixon pins spikes on out of town offenders and lenient court probation policies while noting four robberies in 1974.
The Shafter Chamber of Commerce votes in a special session to extend the director voting deadline to December 12 and approves moving biweekly meetings back to the Shafter Motel from Hutch's. Nominations started late and the final slate is now expected by the coming Friday, the fourth Friday in November.
The court finds the City of Shafter acted within its discretion in denying the tentative subdivision map. It notes the environmental impact of a 66 dwelling development, lack of proper findings, and the need for an environmental impact assessment before amending zoning. Judgment for the cross defendant City of Shafter with costs to be recovered. Dated November 20, 1975.
Shafter residents will welcome the revival of the Community Thanksgiving Service at Veterans Memorial Hall on Wednesday November 26 at 7 30 p m. Participating churches include Shafter Mennonite Brethren and Richland School Studio Band with two choirs. The program features Rev Owen Osum delivering the message and various ministers presenting prayers proclamations and offerings.
