Funeral rites held for Henry J. Loewen in Shafter
Henry J. Loewen 81 died November 14 in Bakersfield Hospital. Funeral services were held November 19 at Mennonite Brethren Church of Shafter. Survived by wife Mary 251 Golden West Ave two sons Herbert H. and Frank H. of rural Shafter a daughter Mrs John Enns also Shafter another daughter Mrs Nettie Strauss of Hepburn Canada. Born Parker South Dakota March 29 1878 he and wife lived in Hepburn Canada seventeen years then moved to California Maple District where sons followed. Retired eight years ago after farming locally. Marriage anniversary 60th celebrated last March with family nearby.

A Shafter group of sixteen Baptist youths traveled in four busloads to Biola College in La Mirada on November 1. They took part in registration tours and lectures led by Dr Sutherland and Biola faculty, enjoyed a luncheon, and earned a scholarship for the group member who enrolls next year. Evelyn Schellenberg celebrated her sixteenth birthday with a Clifton’s Cafeteria cake and musicale, with photos taken to mark the occasion.

Sally Fitzgerald of Stigler Oklahoma died November 6 at Baylor University Hospital Dallas from leukemia. Born January 17 1905, she was survived by husband Omer Fitzgerald son Billy Ray Lively three brothers Henry Marvin Ted Mouser and four sisters Grace Tatum Minnie Butler Agnes West Beulah Evans and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church Stigler with burial by Mallory Funeral Home.
