Kern County construction sets new records in 10 months
The Kern County Board of Trade reports a 10 month construction total of 71.4 million dollars, up 5.3 percent from last year and on track to top the 1972 record of 79.8 million. Unincorporated areas lead October activity while Bakersfield and multiple cities surpassed 1 million for the period. Dwelling permits dominate with 1,751 permits valued at 49.5 million dollars.

CHP Drops Emission Checks For Rotary and 12-Cylinder Engines
CHP roadside inspection teams will no longer test rotary or 12 cylinder engines for exhaust pollutants. Assistant Commissioner A S Cooper said revised Air Resources Board standards do not yet cover these engine types, delaying testing until appropriate standards are created. Idle emission standards target 1955 to 1975 model year vehicles with 4 6 or 8 cylinder engines. The CHP conducts safety checks with 71 inspection teams statewide.
