Spirits rise as Shafter and Wasco prepare for a high turnout game at Wasco Stadium. The Shafter Generals, undefeated 192-point tally, meet Wasco in a non league matchup with a long running rivalry and a trophy awarded to the ten year winner.

Central Valley highway officials and local leaders examined three Shafter to Wasco routes. They prioritized an underpass at the railroad crossing and discussed the hazardous stretch along tracks to the Rosedale Taft turnoff. The meeting included Chamber presidents Bill Stoller and J. D. Lack of Quorum Cancels Monday's Council Meet

A lack of quorum cancelled the city council meeting scheduled for Monday night. Council members Russell and Loewen were in Oregon attending a Mennonite Brethren churches conference, while Councilman Kirk was called to Santa Barbara. The next council session is planned for Monday evening, November 28.

Phil Ohanneson On Road to Recovery

Phil Ohanneson a prominent Shafter investor suffered a heart attack Sunday morning at his Avenue home. He was revived and rushed to Mercy Hospital Bakersfield. his wife reports he is improving and plans to return home in about two weeks. Visitors are restricted per doctors to aid recovery.

Rotarians Host Annual Ladies Nite at Woman's Club

Rotarians hosted their annual Ladies Nite with 75 members and wives attending a spaghetti dinner prepared by Jack Battaglia assisted by Ted Vignolo and Fred Bryant. Prizes included carving knives. entertainment featured two quartets from the Society for the Preservation of Barber Shop Quartettes in America Inc. The Four-Toon Tellers of Bakersfield and the Barber Shop Quartet performed for the group.

Police Busy No Fires Report Notes Sentences

Police kept busy this week but the Shafter Fire Department reports no fires in ten days. Juan Llamas and Frankie Madine faced indecent exposure charges with 75 dollar fines and 90 day suspended terms. Joe Marie Herrera paid 50 on a 90 day suspended sentence. James Perry Lewis arrested for drunkenness with 25 dollar fine and 30 days suspended if law abides. White and Perez faced county charges with White fined 40 locally and 100 plus 90 day suspended term. Perez pending county disposition on vagrancy.
