Wasco High senior Rollins released on bail in murder case
Rollins, a Wasco High School senior and Kern County eighth top rusher last season, posted 100000 bail and was released from jail after being charged with murdering 17 year old Maria Madera Rodriguez near Lost Hills. He said he is happy to be out and will focus on education, not football, while trial proceeds. Authorities note public opinion is divided. his supporters in Wasco clash with family of the victim. A judge had previously ordered him bound over for trial as an adult with bail set at 250000, and bail was later revoked before this release.

City funds donated to renovate aging pool complex
The Shafter CDA approved donating 30000 cash and 10000 services for pool renovations to the recreation district. At a Oct 17 meeting the City Council urged CDA involvement, while Mayor Prout praised the project as a community benefit with long term dividends. Incumbents win in Kern County local elections
Three Minter Field Airport District Directors and two Shafter Recreation and Parks District board members were re elected. MFAD incumbents Dana Mulder Jim Albright and John Putman won with 492 472 and 421 votes. LAPD totals show Anderson Johnston Gladden Melero and Thomas leading the field. Shafter Wasco Irrigation District again will have Ken Paul as director with 119 votes. About 12 percent of registered voters cast ballots as voters stayed home. All results are unofficial until Kern County Elections confirms them.

County Superintendent Kelly F Blanton says more than 200 students from 23 Kern County high schools will compete.
