Mr. and Mrs. Jack Frey hosted a Friday evening reception titled Welcome to Our Community for Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Holloway and their three sons Teddy Joe and Tipton, announcing Holloway as the new Nipper grade teacher. Last week at a social meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary in Veterans Memorial Hall a note mentions the next gathering on Nov 18. Ned Smith an agricultural inspector is teaching a class of inspectors for Bakersfield College this week with trips to the Shafter area. Lettuce from the Charlie Codd ranch was shipped by rail freight this past week and more lettuce will be shipped later.

A 14 year old, Jimmy Waymire, spotted a suspect breaking the Jewel Box window early today. Police arrested Sam Nelson, 52, of Glen dale, on two burglary counts after a chase that followed the tip and subsequent scene evidence.
