Postmasters Meet in Shafter Nov for Kern County group
Forty three Kern County postmasters assistants clerks and spouses gathered in Shafter for the first meeting of the year. The event included a tour of L A Camp Stables presentations on training and stock and a program with Assemblyman Pat Kelly and remarks from Desert Postmasters Association president Mrs Connie Post. A memorial service for Wasco postmaster Herb Pritschke was held and plans were announced for quarterly future meetings.

Services to Be Held Wednesday for James V Ellis
James Vincent Ellis 41 died November 9 at China Lake California. Funeral services set for Wednesday November 12 at 10 a.m. at All Faith Chapel China Lake with burial at Shafter Cemetery. He survived by wife Pearl and two sons James Edward 3 and Johnny Ray 6 months plus brothers and sisters including A G Ellis Kenneth Ellis Rusty Ellis L B Ellis Jimmy Dale Ellis Denver Ellis Jerry Ellis Clarine Gregor Bonnie Johnson Olene Carroll Omega Smith and Gloria Nell Ellis. Ellis was a civil service employee for the navy at China Lake.

Shafter High PTA Plans Homecoming Panel on Campus Behavior
The Shafter High School Parent-Teacher Association invites all parents to a November 18 meeting in the high school cafeteria with a 6:30 p.m. potluck followed by a 7:30 p.m. program. Crosswalk Proposal Discussed by Richland PTA Board
The Richland PTA executive board met on Tuesday afternoon November 4 in the Richland school library to discuss installing a marked crosswalk at Central Valley Highway and Shafter Avenue to protect students. Reg Hammond and Mrs. Lee Stover were charged with contacting county and city officials. The meeting also noted the resignation of publicity chair Mrs. Clay Hale and announced a new chair will be appointed. Mrs. Ed Nikkel urged attendance at the upcoming 7th District PTA meeting in China Lake on November 21 with bus transportation available if needed.

The Shafter High School Student Body schedules the annual homecoming events for Friday November 14 with a B game at 6 p.m. and varsity at 8 p.m. The event features a homecoming queen crown during halftime, band performances, and a dance in the gym from 10 to 11 45 p.m. Admission is 1.00 for couples and 75 cents for singles.
