Shafter High to halt cannon at football games
After the Shafter-Wasco contest the SHS cannon will be silenced at all future SHS football games. Principal Herb Neufeld cites recurring neighbor complaints and a desire to lower noise levels. The Lions Club donated the cannon in 1980 to boost school spirit and it has been used at touchdowns and halftimes.

Shafter Recreation and Parks District advances plans for a senior center at the Boy Scout Hall. The 3,075 square foot facility includes a 2,000 square foot addition, 18 parking spaces, and renovated handicapped restrooms.
