Future Farmers Given Degrees at Shafter Legion Hall
The Shafter high school Future Farmers of America chapter conducted an initiation and degree ceremony at the Legion hall. Bakersfield organization members led by advisor Walter Shore presented the event, with Shafter students Kenneth Burkhart and others receiving the Future Farmer degree and numerous freshmen becoming Green Hands. Officers include Burkhart as president and Steele as vice president, with Hei secretary and Kimbriel treasurer. Music by Jack Muse and Roy McDonald accompanied the program amid group singing and refreshments.

Couple Survive 350-Foot Cliff Plunge En Route to Shafter
Cher Hamilton of Los Angeles escaped death Saturday when the car they rode in toppled over a 350 foot cliff between Tehachapi and Keene. They were on the way to Shafter to visit Mike Poznoff and Johnny Duerksen. Hamilton is said to have fallen asleep at the wheel. The pair were taken to Tehachapi hospital with Mrs Hamilton suffering a fractured neck, broken ribs and wounds while Mr Hamilton had cuts.
