Pumpkin Design Contest Draws 32 Kids at SRPD Event
The Shafter Recreation and Park District hosted its annual Pumpkin Design Contest on Tuesday October 28 with 32 children ages 5 to 14. Contestants competed in three age divisions for three prize categories while every participant received a ribbon. The event featured pumpkin picking, District supplied pumpkins and prizes, and a visit from Lady Farmer who handed out treats at the end. Contact SRPD District Office for upcoming events.

German student spends year with Shafter family
Simone Halbach of Siegen West Germany is spending her school year with the Poplin family in Shafter while attending Shafter High School. She is 18 and enrolled in English U.S. government history biology and physical science plus Spanish. She finds Shafter smaller than her hometown and notes friendly people and big homework load. She plans to learn a lot and remain open to university choices influenced by languages and travel.

Shafter Council Hosts Kern County Trade Board Meeting
The Shafter City Council will host the Kern County Board of Trade meeting on November 6 at City Hall starting at 10 a.m. A public luncheon follows, with a limited number of $5 tickets still available at City Hall. Seating is limited.
