Coach White Mourns Death In San Francisco Sibling
North High School coach William B. White of Shafter learned Tuesday of his sister Frances Roys death in San Francisco after a month of ill health. He rushed to Los Angeles to collect his father and then drove to the Bay City for the funeral rites. Frances Roy survived by her husband, her father, White, and four brothers and three sisters.

Lodi Seed Spuds To Be Planted Here
For the first time in Shafter's potato history local growers will plant their 1938 crop with Lodi seed spuds. Four carloads have arrived, with 25 carloads total to date. Seed spuds also come from Minnesota Montana Oregon and Hatfield California. Lachenmaier and Neuman will plant Lodi spuds raised by Walter G. Lachenmaier and Ed Kurtz, former Shafter residents, who had 80 acres at Lodi this season. The Lodi product is praised as cleaner and is expected to equal last year's acreage. Some growers have not yet decided how much to plant.
