Water Project Aims to Improve Shafter Supply and Drought Response
Shafter faces drought and groundwater contamination worries with two wells showing low DBCP levels. The city and MFAD plan a $7 million slow sand filtration plant funded by state, federal grants, and the California Safe Drinking Water Bond Law. The project will pump water from the Friant Kern Canal to Shafter, MFAD, and rural systems, with costs rising to about $25 per month per household.
