Shafter Bicycle Rodeo Set With City Route to Bakersfield
Officer David Martinez announced that June 2 winners at Richland Intermediate School will advance to Bakersfield’s City-wide Bicycle Rodeo on June 11. Saturday’s event starts at 9 a.m. with safety inspection, then five events for grades 3 to 6, awarding ribbons and certificates. The Bakersfield ride offers trophies and a $50 savings bond for each grade winner, with prizes donated by Bakersfield Merchants. Sponsored by the Richland PTA and Shafter Police Department.

John Pavletich a Shafter High senior was chosen as California Association of Future Farmers of America treasurer becoming the first state officer from Shafter FFA. Delegates at the State Convention at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo elected him along with five others to lead over 21,000 members in California. He plans to attend Fresno State University after his term.
