Shafter appoints Escondido officer Paul Stotesbury chief
Paul Stotesbury, a 45 year old Escondido Police Department lieutenant with 22 years in law enforcement, was named Shafter Chief of Police. He will assume duties June 17 after a swearing in at City Hall and plans to move his family to Shafter to be part of the community. The appointment follows a long recruitment process and replaces interim chief Bob Patterson.

Rollins trial projected to run through mid July
Judge Turner's order shielding the preliminary proceedings from public view drew protests from media groups.
