The Shafter post office announces a May Memorial Day observance to honor fallen services members. Officials invite local residents to join ceremonies and note wreath laying details.
Rio Bravo will graduate twenty five seniors tonight at 8 p.m. in the auditorium. Barbara Giese performs Bans and Sweet and Dainty, followed by the group singing Halls of Ivy. Paul Lynns will present diplomas to the graduates.
Commencement activities begin at 8 p.m. on Thursday June 6 for 150 graduating seniors. Rev Dale Klint of the First Muin Valley will deliver the address on Concern for Individual Attitudes. Class of 1963 to receive diplomas from the principal after the speech.

She describes travels in the United States including San Francisco Los Angeles and Disneyland and notes luggage delays from Las Vegas. Grayburn offers observations on New Zealand geography population government and welfare state aspects comparing to the United States.
Mayor Harvey Gaede urged all city department heads to submit budget estimates to the Council by June 5. The Council plans to discuss budgets at the June 10 meeting, likely including funds for garbage land purchase the Hudson tract purchase and other capital investments.
The Reform Church annual meeting opens Wednesday May 29 and runs to June 2 with several public services. Student Grossmann, a recent Shafter High School graduate and UC Berkeley alumnus, will preach at 11 a.m. on religion as a habit, based on Acts 2 37. An afternoon German service at 2 30 p.m. will be led by Rev Emil Buehrer of Green Bay Wis for German speaking residents. An ordination service will follow at Ebenezer Reformed Church on Sunday evening.
American Legion Auxiliary Unit 213 led by Grace Cox sold 188.75 dollars worth of poppies on May 24 and 25 to fund rehabilitation for crippled veterans and aid veterans’ children. Helpers included Isabel Crawford Elgie Heinlein Cathy Morgan Evelyn Scott Sonya Baehr Bessie Kennath Donna Bellows Robin Neuman Cathy Scott Sheryl Morgan Jill Peterson and Sandra Keller.
Richland School will hold its forty ninth graduation on Wednesday May 29 at 7 pm. Bruce Crawford superintendent will present the class to Harold Miller board member who will award the diploma. John Petersen principal will present to Arthur H Johnson high school principal. Maple School graduation ceremonies are scheduled for Thursday night Clyde C Johnston announces.
