Richland graduation set for 218 seniors next week

The Richland ceremony themed Education-Our Future will take place Wednesday at 7 pm with 218 graduates. Speakers include Jerrilyne Ohi sson, Don Nikke, and Kristina Johnson, as the band plays Piano Concerto for Band and Recessional. Bryce Putnam will be master of ceremonies.

Flag Burning Ceremonies Set For June 14

Flag Day events are planned in the bandstand at Civic Center Park with discarded city flags used for the ceremony. Main speaker will be Steve Foote of Van Nuys, former state commander, as Leslie L. Post urges community participation and support.

Everett Named Commander At Legion Post 213

John T. Everett was elected commander of Leslie L. Robinson Post No. 213 of the American Legion at Monday’s meeting. He previously served as commander in 1958-59 and 1959-60 and will be installed June 8 at Wasco in a joint meeting with auxiliaries. Everett is the first vice commander elect for the Fifteenth District of California.

Second Reading on Ordinance at Monday Meeting

Shafter's Ordinance No. 153 will have its second reading at the council meeting Monday the 27. The council will also consider the coming fiscal year budget including garbage disposal and parks.

City Council Agrees 10 Year DMV Building Rent Plan

At a May 20 special meeting the City Council authorized a 10 year lease with E. B. Stringham for a building to house the State Department of Motor Vehicles at 325 dollars per month. The resolution adds a five year extension starting September 1, 1973 with a renewal option in 1978 if the state continues rental, allowing DMV use of the building.

120 Register For Richland Kindergarten

Richland officials urge parents to enroll their children early as 120 registrations stand to date. Local education leaders emphasize early sign up to secure placement and plan staffing for the upcoming school year.

Richland PTA Holds Annual Board Meeting and Reports

Mrs. Henry Voth chaired the Richland PTA Board meeting in the Teachers Lounge. The 1963-64 budget was presented. 17 planks in the legislation platform were reviewed and delegates were authorized to vote per the local PTA wishes. A Kern County bond issue and a venereal disease control seminar were noted.

Memorial Day Services To Be Held By Legion

Memorial Day rites start at 11 a.m. at Shafter Cemetery with Rev. Robert Longden delivering the address. Commander Morgan notes the GAR origin in 1868 and the Legion’s role in continuing observances. He urges wide turnout and displays of the U S flag by homes and businesses.

53rd Eureka Classis Annual Meeting Hosted by Shafter Church

The Ebenezer Reformed Church in Shafter hosts the 53rd Annual Eureka Classis of the Reformed Church in the U.S. from May 29 to June 2 with co host Grace Reformed Bakersfield. Delegates from outside California attend. events include worship services, theological examinations, ordination planned for Sunday at 8 p.m.

Richland PTA Fashion Show Showcases 1890s Styles

Richland PTA held its annual fashion show at Memorial Hall dedicating the event to Mrs. Julia Potter and Mrs. Jessie C. Kattenhorn. Seventy-one models from Richland 8th graders presented garments created by the students under Miss Burnis Morris with escorts, piano narration, and a musical program. The evening also served as the Richland PTA business and installation meeting with Irvin Nephew delivering the installation address.
