Abilene Christian College senior Janice Gibson a former Shafter resident is named Miss ACC for 1958 and Homecoming Queen. She participates in campus groups and is featured in the ACC yearbook. Kern County young women aged 18 to 25 may enter the Miss Wool of Kern County contest at the Sheepmen's picnic on June 29. Qualifications include unmarried status, one year of college, height 5 ft 4 in to 5 ft 8 in, and dress size 10 to 12. Entry blanks at Brunel's Photography, no fee. The winner earns an all expenses paid trip to San Francisco for Miss California Wool and may advance to state and national titles with a Chevrolet car and a New York trip for appearances. Judge Councilman Ralph Boel among the panel.

Be Camp Fire Notes Shafter Camp Fire concludes annual event
The Shafter Camp Fire Organization held its annual Council Fire for 60 Camp Fire Girls on Thursday May 22 at the High School Auditorium. The ceremony featured a bugle opening, a processional of Firemakers Woodgatherers and Trail Seekers, candle lighting reflecting seven crafts, and awards for Trailseekers Woodgathers and Fire Makers.
