Former SHS coach Todd dies after long illness
Former Shafter High School physical education teacher and head football coach Lowell Todd died May 18 at his Monterey home after a long battle with emphysema. Shalimar director to speak at Shafter Chamber meeting
Tim Prince, director of the Shalimar Children's Center in Bakersfield, will address the Shafter Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture Friday at J.D.'s. Milt Hawkins, a Shalimar Center volunteer, will introduce him. The center shelters children from months old to 18 years removed from abusive homes. Children are referred by police or welfare agencies and stay about a week until the home situation improves or a foster home is found. Volunteers provide affection and guidance, Hawkins says. Prince will describe the work, which Hawkins calls highly rewarding.
