Barn Fire Destroys Lopez Ranch on Tulare Avenue
A large barn at the Dan Mettler Ranch on Tulare Avenue northwest of Shafter burned Monday afternoon. Fire swept the barn in minutes, destroying farm machinery and two potato cutters, a ton of hay, and a sulphur pile. the cause is under investigation.

Union Oil officials say the 8-34 well in the Shafter field will likely be brought in before week’s start with a heavy producer expected. The well is at 11,290 feet current depth with water tests underway and casing completed. After testing the hole will be drilled out for production, located 660 feet west of the Union discovery well in Section 34.

City Considers Election Over Disincorporation Issue
