A conference session on nutrition and vitamin use highlighted gaps in proper daily nutrition for boys and girls. School meal programs were cited as key to meeting national dietary needs with a focus on cost per student and quality meals.
Wes Anderson assistant principal at Shafter High School will resign at the end of the current school year. He will become assistant principal at Foot hill School in Bakersfield at the start of the new school year in September. During World War II he served in the US Navy as a minesweeper crewman and received a Teacher Association award.
Directors of the California Taxpayers Association urge a No vote on Proposition Two a measure to authorize a 250 million dollar bond issue for veterans loans. They warn total indebtedness could rise to 1.75 billion if defeated and argue state credit should fund essential government needs. They say remaining 160 million in authorizations plus reserve funds about 31 million suffice through 1964 and note veteran loan program has directed 13 billion in loans since 1921.
Mr and Mrs Elmer Engel report the birth of their first grandchild, the first great grandchild for their family. The infant is tied to the Kliewer line through Engel’s daughter Nancy who married James Kliewer, with the Kliewer name to continue through the grandson.
Mr and Mrs LeRoy Balzer announce the birth of a son Kameron John in Los Angeles on April 23. Kameron weighed 8 pounds 7 ounces and measured 20 inches. He is the third child of the Wells family with two sisters aged 3 and Kimberly. Grandparents include John Balzer of Shafter and Jacob Braun of Henderson Nebraska. Leonard and Mrs Wells of Iowa. maternal grandmother Mrs Steve Ruffo of Petaluma visiting.
