Talk by William Van Ewert on European War outcomes
Bakersfield junior college instructor William Van Ewert spoke to Shafter Kiwanis on possible postwar Europe results. He warned that victors tend to impose ideas, potentially erasing cultured diversity, with Germany pushing for unified Europe and Allied victory preserving democracy and open trade. He noted American resolve during WWI but warned peace problems exceed wartime stakes. He downplayed invasion fears, suggesting Monroe Doctrine issues could draw the U.S. into war and warning against assuming democracy fits all nations.
