Outdoor Concert at Stringham Park Bandstand
Corrie Gates leaving musical groups to form a new act joins the Richland School band for an outdoor concert at Stringham Park bandstand on Tuesday May 27 at 7 p.m. Choir director Berneice Berke bile and band and orchestra director Don Wilkinson invite parents and the community to attend the first outdoor concert. The program will be varied with selections for all ages and attendees are asked to bring a folding chair or blanket to sit on.

Kern High School District trustees plan summer changes at Shafter High. Principal Harold J. Corrie will leave July 1 for North High Bakersfield and be replaced by Jordans Kanikkeberg from McFarland High. Charles Gates remains as assistant principal. Haskins named commander of Shafter Leslie L. Robinson Post No. 213 in annual election. He succeeds Chuck Bieghle and will be installed with Wasco region post in June. Improvement Council Weed Removal Night Described As Whopping Success
The Shafter Improvement Council reported a whopping success after a work night last Tuesday with 21 volunteers. Gary Wilson brought a tractor and disc, and the crew cleared weeds along a two block stretch of Central Valley Highway south of Shafter. Members included Kent Steel and many couples, who later gathered at the Wilson home for home made ice cream and cookies.

Full Military Honors Held for Vietnam Casualty Robert Banks
Full military honors were conducted Sunday in Shafter for AP/4 Robert A. Banks killed in action in Vietnam May 9. The service at First Southern Baptist Church honored his heroism and meritorious service, with burial at Shafter Memorial Park. Banks, born February 18, 1949, lived in Shafter most of his life and attended Richland Elementary and Shafter High, later enlisting in the U.S. Army under the buddy system with Richard B. Miller accompanying his body from Vietnam.
