Illegal Sale Leads To Arrests

A crash just south of the government experimental farm on Shafter highway left four people sent to Kern General hospital with injuries. Geneva Williams of Shafter suffered a badly lacerated right arm and possible fractured hip. others, including Hyman Walker Kaufman and Reggie Hurt, were rushed to Bakersfield with various injuries. The truck driver J A Ragland and two passengers escaped serious harm.

Shafter City Attorney Injured in Car Crash
Shafter city attorney Peter Ohanneson was injured in a collision about 1.5 miles north of town on the Shafter highway. He suffered a badly bruised chest possible rib fractures and knee lacerations and was taken to Mercy hospital Bakersfield for treatment. J B Murdock of Wasco received leg cuts and Clyde Bell of Shafter with Murdock escaped injury. both cars were severely damaged. Constable Reily assisted and Channeson was admitted for further examination with expected several days in hospital.

New Worker Camp Housing Project Near Shafter
Forty new houses are under construction at the federal migratory camp three miles north of Shafter on a forty acre site. Each two bedroom home will house six to seven people with gardens and garages. Fire warden Art Craig says work is progressing satisfactorily and occupancy is expected by month’s start.
