Deadly Summer for Pets: ASPCA APCC Warns of Toxins
The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center notes June through August are the riskiest months for companion animals with July 2005 seeing about 10 000 calls. Pesticides including flea and tick products, rodenticides, and herbicides caused most incidents, with cats especially vulnerable to dog labeled permethrin products. The center advises careful product labeling, vet consultation for young, pregnant or elderly pets, flea comb as alternative, close observation after exposure, and placing pesticides out of reach.
