Maple School hosted an April open house with 5th to 8th graders performing a Land of a Thousand Dances medley under Nancy Goehring. Students wore poodle skirts and letterman jackets, with a Monster Mash, Hand Jive, and crowd-pleasing Hang On Sloopy. Primary grades also sang, including solos, with a Mary Poppins medley by 3rd and 4th graders.
Shafter American Legion Post 213 will hold its annual Memorial Day observance at 11 am on May 29 at Shafter Cemetery. Guest speaker John Ross, Vietnam Veteran and pastor, will address the crowd. Various service clubs will join in placing a wreath. wreaths may be ordered from local florists. Public invited. for details call Gordy Bartlett at 746-6568.
