Pvt. Clarence O. Kattenhorn, of the Ninth Army's Hell on Wheels, writes of a record one day and a tough Elbe crossing. He heads a group that found abandoned German trucks with engines running, describing two days as the worst he has spent. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. V. Kattenhorn of Shafter.

Staff Sgt. Lawrence W. Leach age 23, son of John T. Leach of Shafter, is assigned to duties at Truax Field in Madison Wisconsin.
