Mrs Elma Bell Skaggs a Shafter matron died in a motor vehicle collision near Hanford last Thursday night. Her sister the driver was seriously injured. Skaggs and family had planned a reunion for Friday May 8. Funeral held in Hanford with friends from Shafter and valley.

The peak shipping season was reached Tuesday with 69 cars of potatoes and nine cars of onions departing Shafter via the Santa Fe lines. Totals stand at 471 cars of potatoes and 41 cars of onions, not counting daily heavy truck shipments.

About six violators appeared in court and paid fines from $2 to $5, while those with minor offenses were given warnings. Double parking and parking in the red zone before the post office are strictly prohibited to prevent traffic jams.
