Alan Krauter, formerly of Arvin, returns from Washington D C where he works as press secretary for Congressman William Thomas R Bakersfield. Krauter says the capital is busy and the people friendlier than he expected. Thomas sits on the Agriculture Committee and pushes HR 3514 to extend low yield disaster payments to 1978 cotton growers.

Welfare fraud case in Ridgecrest Court
Ridgecrest couple face welfare fraud charges in East Kern Municipal Court. George Watson 27 and Paula Watson 26, both of 1599 North Norma Street Space 63, were charged by Kern County Welfare Department for failure to report Mr Watsons employment earnings. Judge Charles A Porter reduced the felony to a misdemeanor and dismissed the fraud charge against George. Paula pleaded guilty and received a one year County Jail sentence suspended with probation for three years. The overpayment of 870 dollars was recovered and a 350.50 food stamp overissuance sanction was set to be paid at 100 dollars monthly starting May 15.
