Future Farmer Heinsohn Wins at Great Western Pomona
Karl Heinsohn of Shafter High School FFA captured the Supreme Grand Champion title at the 1987 Great Western Fair in Pomona with a Limousine feeder calf. He and Scott Blagg led eight Shafter FFA members into the top 12 of 27 feeder steers, winning Champion and Reserve Champion in the American breeds contest and later the overall feeder steers title. Kari Heinsohn earned second in the FFA Beef Showmanship and was named 1987 Master Showman of the FFA Division. Other Shafter winners included Becky Smith and Lisa Rohrbach, with placings in lambs and feeder steers. The club also excelled in livestock judging. Shafter A team placed first overall. The trip was supported by the Booster Club and George Lucas Farms.
