Farm bill changes target erosion and conservation rules
The 1985 Farm Bill introduces Conservation Reserve Conservation Compliance Sodbuster and Swampbuster provisions affecting Shafter Wasco area farmers. Provisions encourage retirements of erodible cropland and require conservation plans and compliance to remain eligible for USDA benefits. The Bakersfield Soil Conservation Service will assist and map fields with SCS offices. Contact SCS at 805 861 4129 for guidance.
