Kiddie Rides Set to Highlight Annual Festival

Local Recreation Group Discusses Shafter Program
The Shafter Recreation Commission held its annual spring meeting on May 3 at Richland School. The group approved the coming year’s program and budget and named a committee of Grant Jensen, Bruce Crawford, and Roy Farrell to study future recreational facilities and report annually to the County Board of Supervisors. Coins dropped into the American Legion Auxiliary Poppy Day boxes on May 28 and 29 will fund aid for disabled veterans over the coming year. President Mrs. J. P. McCoy says funds finance volunteer work with no salaries, kept separate for veteran and needy children aid and local to Shafter. The Auxiliary plans expanded rehabilitation work and seeks a generous response to assist more veterans in the year ahead.

Deloney wins district essay award at age ten
Juanzen Deloney captures the district contest top prize with his essay on the pledge of allegiance.
