Floodwaters Swamp Lerdo Area After Tuesday Storm

City Administrator Bill Sheldon described the storm as generating a lot of water, with rainfall estimates of about one and a half to just over two inches varying by district. The event included hail, strong winds, and a tornado near Buttonwillow, while officials denied reports of burst pipes or overflowing canals. Public Works Director Lewis Carroll noted most runoff came from farmlands northeast of Shafter, with 15 to 20 homes reporting water intrusion, especially along Lerdo Street from Mannel to Elm. Crews found a Santa Fe drain unclogged despite overwhelming flow, and both leaders said the city was stretched thin but acted promptly.
