Pressure Cooker Test Gauges Shown In Four County Tour
In Kern County, Mr. Eichelberger and Mr. Berry of Pacific Gas and Electric Co. tested pressure cookers for four days with Mrs. Dorothy Wilkinson and Mrs. Margaret Cole of the Agricultural Extension Service present in Wasco Taft Arvin and Bakersfield. Of 156 cookers tested 126 were new tests and 30 repeated. Although 84 gauges read correctly at 10 pounds the master gauge showed 58 units low in 1 to 3 pounds. New gauges were advised for 14ers. The tests stressed safe food preservation during the 1945 campaign making clear the danger of unknowing adjustments.
