AARP Sur prise Trip Draws Members On April Day
AARP members joined a surprise day trip on April 26 costing 16 dollars. Mary Epp, tour chair, praised the outing from Shafter through Wasco and Visalia to remote sites and a final Visalia library stop. Future tours include Santa Rosa, Morro Bay, western Canada, Woodside gardens, and a December Solvang trip with deposits required.

Fest committee meeting for Shafter Potato and Cotton Festival
The Shafter Potato and Cotton Festival Committee will meet May 7 at 7 00 p m in City Hall for final festival preparations. Chairman Ben Grundy notes loose ends and a parade grand marshal is still to be chosen. People may submit names or attend the meeting. About twenty parade entries exist and organizers urge more local business and group floats to boost this year’s event through participation in the Shop Shafter program.

Cinco de Mayo Program at Shafter High MECHA
The Shafter High School MECHA chapter will host the 14th annual Cinco de Mayo Program on May 4 in the school auditorium. Festivities start at 7 p.m. with the coronation of the festival queen, five contestants selling tickets and delivering speeches, plus dancing entertainment and a post event reception. Tickets are fifty cents and available from candidates, escorts, or at the door.

A Life-Style Health Series natural foods nutrition seminar is sponsored by Shafter Seventh-day Adventist Church.
