SHC at Shafter Convalescent Hospital organized a first time park picnic at Manne Park on April 26 with 100 participants including 50 patients and 50 volunteers. Volunteers helped in wheelchairs, serving food, and companionship while hospital staff provided hamburgers, macaroni salad, chili beans, punch, tea, and ice cream. Sydney Vallembois, hospital activity director, called it a success and said new bonds formed between volunteers and patients created a hopeful mood for tomorrow.
