Shafter Lions Club members John Hanner Carl Moyer and Stan Cook with their wives attended the District 4 A 2 Convention in Visalia. The event showcased speeches including the Student Speaker contest won by Richard Ogden of Visalia. District Governor elect Martin Ascotian was announced for 1968 1969 with future conventions set for Bakersfield and Fresno.

Mrs. Archie West aged 44 of 1104 Woodrow Dr. Oildale died April 18 at home after an extended illness. Funeral services were held at Greenlawn with Rev. Bill Few of the Seventh Baptist Church officiating. Burial followed Monday, April 22. Survivors include sons Alvis, in the Air Force at Edwards AFB, and Wayne, at home. Husband worked for Safeway and Food Bank in Shafter before moving to Oildale.

Nine members of the A O Wa Ki Ya Horizon club, sponsored by the Shafter Business and Professional Women's Club, spent a weekend in Santa Cruz. They visited the boardwalk and beach, stayed with Mrs Norma Olson in Watsonville for breakfast, and celebrated Barbara Duck's sixteenth birthday. The group planned the trip for a year and later served at the Philharmonic on Monday evening.
