Richland Library Becomes Shafter School Highlight

Richland school in Shafter experiments with a library as the educational core under Superintendent Bruce Crawford. Students weekly learn reference use and study skills while a voluntary noon and after school program draws them to a bright, inviting space with conference rooms for group discussion. The district voted $5,000 for new books as staff note library use rising and its role as a mind nourishing tool.

Bloodmobile to Visit Shafter April Nine

The Houchins bloodmobile is set to visit Shafter on April 9 under the 20-30 club sponsorship. It will be stationed at the Veterans Memorial Hall from 3 to 7 p.m. Jack H. Janzen, drive chairman, announced with Wes Janzen and his crew assisting. The goal is 100 pints due to a recent higher demand at the Shafter bank. Donors should not eat three hours before giving, and refreshments will follow.

121 Motorists Get Traffic Citations

Police Chief John Reily announced that 121 traffic citations have been issued since city parking restrictions began earlier this month. He noted only four repeaters and a general decline in violators, with several tickets for displaying registration certificates visibly from outside the vehicle.

Art Show To Feature 300 Local Paintings

The Tenth Art Festival of district one opens Saturday March 29 at the Veterans Memorial Hall in Shafter.
