Santa Fe Introduces New Super Chief Train
The Edward G Budd Manufacturing Company builds a nine car stainless steel diesel powered Super Chief for the Santa Fe railroad. It will run Chicago to Los Angeles 2245 miles in about 39 hours 45 minutes with five sleepers and a dining lounge baggage post office and observation cars designed for comfort and speed.

Two Gas Firms Seek Permit to Merge in California
Los Angeles Gas and Electric and Southern California Gas filed with the California Railroad Commission in San Francisco on March 18 for authority to merge into Southern California Gas. Each share of LA G&E 6 percent preferred stock will convert to four shares of SoCal Gas Series A stock. After authorization, holders will vote. A B Macbeth and Addison B Day issued statements praising anticipated rate reductions and improved service. December 31 1936 counts meters: LA G&E 385,753. SoCalGas 264,850. merger would create a surviving entity with about 650,000 meters.
