Richland Orchestra Heads to Las Vegas for Command Performance
Seventy persons including the Richland Orchestra, director Dick Southwick, parents and chaperones board two Greyhound buses for a trip to Las Vegas. They perform at 1 30 p m Wednesday March 22 before the Western Division of the National Music Educators Convention, then return by 10 p m. Donations funded the trip from local organizations and individuals in Shafter and Richland.

Good Friday Services Planned by Shafter Churches
A Good Friday service event is set for Friday March 24 at 12 noon in downtown Shafter at the James and Central avenue corner. The Shafter Ministerial Alliance coordinates the prayers scripture and music with Rev Dexter Ogan presiding Rev Wayne Owen reading scripture Rev Henry Dick leading prayer Clyde B Kidmore delivering the message Rev W V McPhail giving the dedication and Miss Joann Agee singing with organist Bob Nikkel and John Balzer leading Congregational singing. El Charaf Shrine Club hosts a ladies night dinner dance on Friday April 7 at Shafter Memorial Hall with Al Malahkah Temple officers and their ladies expected.

Shafter Easter Sunrise Service Planned At Stringham Park
Shafter will hold Easter Sunday Sunrise Services at Stringham Park at 6 a.m. on March 26. The First Christian Church organized the event in celebration of Christ’s Resurrection with murals, plants, and floral decorations prepared by local groups. Ministers from several churches will participate and Miss Marily Pribble of Highland College will sing with pianist Mrs. LeLand Kroeker accompanying. A pancake breakfast follows the service.

Community Responds To Needs For Richland Orchestra Trip
The Richland Orchestra seeks funds for a command performance in Las Vegas and gains broad community support from Varieties organizer Bob Saively, Loyd Shires, Mrs Kay Millwee, and Camp Fire girls. Fourteen numbers were performed with a professional tone, featuring tokers, a kewpie doll number, a drum group, and a male quartet.

Brazil Group to Appear at Rotary Meeting
Seven exchange students from Brazil will join Wasco and Shafter Rotarians for a joint meeting at the Shafter Motel on Tuesday March 28. They are in the Los Angeles area under a district exchange program linking Rotary District 528 and Brazil’s 427. The group will stay with Bakersfield and South Bakersfield clubs, then visit the U. S. Cotton Experimental Farm in Shafter.
