Crawford memorial plaque placed at Richland library

PUPC Gathers Strength In California Utility Cost Fight

PUPC activists from Shafter to Wasco push for lower farm power rates. Leaders Chris Siemens and Jim Crettel traveled to San Francisco and Sacramento to press Public Utilities Commissioners and lawmakers as hearings approach in April through June. They outline farm energy burdens, cite PG&E pricing, and note agriculture’s historic rate status. Insurance woes hit Shafter recreation board meeting

The Shafter Recreation and Park District faced insurance issues as a $4,983.50 voucher was pulled after the insurer withdrew its offer. Interim CAPRI coverage is delayed to April 1, with $20,000 moved to insurance reserve. A stolen pickup was valued at $1,499.99 with $1,900 in repairs. An Easter egg hunt is planned for March 27. Agriculture power use highlighted at public meeting

Jeff Fabbri displayed a graph for members showing agriculture using a small amount of power pays a disproportionate share. Public hearings on proposed PG and E rate increases will be held in Fresno on July 17 and Bakersfield on July 18. PUPC urges farmers and agriculture related businesses to attend.

Shafter station notes frost risk despite milder week

Shafter Depot Museum to Open Friday for Public Tour
